Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational Objectives (first published in 1956) formulated hierarchies in three domains: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor

There are three main domains of learning and all teachers should know about them and use them to construct lessons. These domains are cognitive (thinking), affective (emotion/feeling), and psychomotor (physical/kinesthetic). Each domain o has a taxonomy associated with it. A taxonomy is simply a word for a classification. All of the taxonomies  are arranged so that they proceed from the simplest to more complex levels.

Cognitive: mental skills (Knowledge)

Affective: growth in feelings or emotional areas (Attitude or self)

Psychomotor: manual or physical skills (Skills)

The Taxonomy has six levels:
 1) remembering, 2) understanding, 3) applying, 4) analyzing, 5) evaluating, and 6) creating.

A quote from Leslie Owen Wilson, 

"Remember that the trick in effectively planning lessons — there has to be the intention for growth specifically in the selected domain area!  Learning takes place in ALL 3 domains and wise teachers combine domains so that lessons and learning  are more holistic and multidimensional."

Blog Post #1 write about your experiences with curriculum planning and development

I have been lucky enough to be a big part in the development of our current curriculum at Meroby.  Because of all the changes to education in the last decade we have had to create and recreate our benchmarks, assessments and most importantly our curicculum.

Our principal who was hired 5 years ago is very data driven. She lives and dies by standardized testing.  Our curriculum is developed based on these results.  We meet often in our PLC, (professional learning communties) meetings to discuss test results and what we have to do to improve them.  We adopted the Envision math program because it was common core aligned.

 All our most recent curriculum is research based and aligned with the common core.  Our district has adopted the "mass customize learning" philosophy and profientcy based learning.  We are working on developing curriculum that is cross grade level based.  Our most recent was the development of a science unit aligned with the common core and incorporating  Robert Marzano's Taxonomy guiding principles.

Ok, so I am all ready to get started with this class EDC 533.  I am nervous but excited.
